If you have any safety concerns or questions this holiday season, you can contact the Lafayette Fire Department at 303-665-9661.
Lorraine Carli, vice president of NFPA’s Outreach and Advocacy division, said, “By knowing where potential fire hazards exist and taking the needed steps to prevent them, people can enjoy the season’s celebrations and traditions while keeping their families, guests and homes safe.”
- Decorations — Check all holiday light cords for signs of damage, including fraying or bite marks from pests in the attic.
- Holiday Trees — If you pick up a live holiday tree, remember to water it each day and to keep space heaters back three feet.
- Fireplaces — A fireplace brings warmth and joy during the holidays but can be a serious fire hazard without the proper precautions. Put up a fire screen to stop rolling embers.
